Downtown Denver, March 2026
This is fairly high profile for wee Eric, a one minute movie projected every 10 minutes or so in downtown Denver for a month or so, part of “Ireland in Motion” a collection of movies curated by Rian Kerrane for Denver Theater District. If it’s still March 2026 when you read this, go have a look, at night. The other ones are even better, might be your opinion, who knows. It’s at 16th and Arapahoe, on the Fischer-Daniels Building (the “Clocktower”). The attention means I’d better get some things posted on this neglected website, so it’s had an impact already, at least for me.
Here’s the official description:
Late Gasp for Stan and Harry
Film was pretty central for me for a decade or so from about 1987. Stan Brakhage and Harry Smith shaped me more than just about anyone, shaped my sense of what Art could be, at its most vivid, agile, and contemplative. A way of encountering the world, feeling around for hidden forms. Film itself, as distinct from movies, and the visionary ambitions of my young mind have both become antiques, and so here, 16mm film is used as a stencil for pigment, these tall knotty frames painted smaller than a playing card. It is still not quite yet film’s last gasp.
